On 08/17/93, the Leon County Sheriff's Office received
a report that Verdell Grice Albert was missing. Ms.
Albert was an employee of Goodwill Industries and was
last seen at their offices at 300 Mabry Street on
08/16/93 at approximately 5:50 PM.
Ms. Albert's yellow 1982 AMC station wagon was located
in the parking lot of the Publix Shopping Center located
at 2020 West Pensacola Street. The vehicle was properly
parked and there was no indication of foul play that
could be observed. Information on the scene indicated
that Albert may have left willingly, indicating she was
familiar with or knew who she was leaving with.
During the following weeks, numerous tips were
received regarding her whereabouts. None of the tips were
of specific use and no specific suspects were identified.
An unidentified black male was reported to have been seen
arguing with Albert in the parking lot of the Publix on
the day of her disappearance.
On 11/08/93, a US Forest Service employee located
skeletal remains of what appeared to be an adult human.
These remains were found on a dirt road off of the
powerline road directly off of L.L. Wallace Road in Leon
County. The remains were later identified as those of
Albert and the case was upgraded from a missing person to
a homicide.
